The History of Silk
The discovery of silk began in the Yellow Emporer’s garden.
A long long time ago according to Chinese legend, the legendary Yellow Emporer, Huang-di ordered his wife now know as the Goddess of Silk, Lady Hsi-Ling-Shih, to find out what was damaging his Mulberry trees. She found white worms eating the Mulberry leaves and spinning shiny cocoons. She accidentally dropped a cocoon into hot water, and as she played with the cocoon in the water, to her surprise a delicate cobweb separated itself from the cocoon. She drew it out and found that one slender thread was unwinding itself from the cocoon. She had discovered silk. The Chinese guarded the secret of the silk worm for about 3000 years.
